Foremer President of Croatia Prof. Dr. Ivo Josipović, Dr. JU Weiwei, Director of the Department of Central and Eastern European Studies at the Institute of European Studies; Dr. KONG Yuan, Vice Director of the Department of European History Studies at the same institute; Dr. ZHANG Chao, Associate Professor at the Institute of European Studies.
"For more than three decades, Croatia and China have experienced a rise in economic, academic, and cultural cooperation," Josipović stated. Regarding the potential for further cooperation between the two countries, he emphasized that a key pillar of Croatia-China diplomacy should be China's investment in Croatia's green economy, as well as Croatia's efforts to attract tourists from China.
Jasna Plevnik noted that EU-China relations have slowed since 2019, largely due to the U.S. anti-China narrative and the anti-free trade policies that Brussels has strictly followed in its approach to China. She also highlighted that a broader shift in transatlantic relations could make Brussels-Peking ties less dependent on Washington.
The Chinese experts discussed the importance of further deepening academic cooperation between China and Croatia, stressing that two Chinese initiatives—the China-CEEC and the Belt and Road Initiative—have significantly enhanced mutual knowledge between the two countries, marking an important achievement in China-Croatia relations.
